Perhaps even better than Denny Crane...
"I'm going to tell you the same thing I told the blind masseuse: Believe me, you'll know when I'm finished" -- William Shatner as "Ed Goodson"
One of the MANY MANY fun things the Ed Goodson character says in the show.

Accurate, Concise.. I like it...
Let's start a campaign to replace MSNBCs entirely political commentary slate with Dicky Barret.
Full disclosure, I'm a huge Bosstones fan. I've known Dicky Barrett since I was a kid. Not only did I start going to Bosstones shows about 5 years before MTV figured out who they were (surprisingly easy to sneak in to the Kenmore square clubs as a teenager), but he's a friend of the family (a couple of my aunts and uncles who are only 12 -14 years older than I am used to hang with him.. never got the story if one of them was actually dating or not), and I went to school with a couple of his cousins.
Yes, Massachusetts really can be that small a place... at least when you've got as big a family as I do.

Older than Dennis
Not 38, but indeed 40, and 40 shall be the number of the counting. Years that is, wink wink nudge nudge.
Yes, Monty Pythons Flying Circus hit it's 40th anniversary today.
...Yaknow, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords might result in a better system of government we have now. Perhaps we should have moistened bints pick our presidents... they couldn't do any worse.

We have to cater for the wilder elements in our society
Scalzi tweets
@Scalzi:"It occurs to me I really don't know how to tell when blue cheese goes bad."
Does anyone? That would rather be the point of the thing wouldn't is.
It brings to mind Lenny Henrys (as Gareth Blackstock in "Chef!") classic rant on the subject.

General, Marine, Aviator, Actor, Sideman, Announcer, Father
Ed McMahon was all of those things. He passed on early this morning, at age 86
Most folks think of him as the sweepstakes guy, or Carsons sidekick; and he was certainly one of entertainments great sidemen... but he was so much more than that.
A few years back, commenting on firearms myths, I wrote this about McMahon.
Thank you for your service, thank you for your talent, rest in peace.

Ed McMahon is a Marine, but not a sniper. He was a fighter pilot in WW2 and Korea. McMahon in fact had a full military career before becoming famous, and he retired as a Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard; with over 25 years of service, including 6 years of active service in combat theaters, and 85 combat missions.

A grave lack, that must immediately be corrected
Last night, I learned that my wife has never seen Caddyshack.
The poor woman.
Sadly, I'd seen it so many times I never bothered buying the DVD so I couldn't correct the problem immediately; but through the wonders of Amazon it will be here Tuesday.
Imagine going through life without benefit of the wisdom of Ty Webb and Carl Spackler...
Remember, Be the Ball.

Ha Ha Only Serious
This has to be John McCains Best Speech Ever
Seriously, McCain delivers what is certainly the best speech he's ever given... and it's a comedy routine.
Part 1:
And part 2:

Shit, piss, cunt, fuck, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tits
We disagreed on almost everything political, but I would still see him live whenever I could (5 times if I remember right). When it came to fundamental principles of self expression, and opposition to hypocrisy, bullshit, doubletalk, and political correctness; nobody said it better, louder, or harder.
Lenny Bruce might have cleared the road, but Carlin paved it, and put up the signs for everyone else to follow.
Father, Air Force veteran (discharged as unsuitable for military service),
author, comedian, artistic pioneer, commentator,
and worlds biggest asshole (and proud of it).
