17 and 22

The Boston Celtics just pasted the L.A. Lakers 92-131 in game six of the NBA finals; going 4-2 in 6 for their 17th championship, and their first championship in 22 years.

Paul Pierce, Celtic team captain, has been named finals MVP.

Kevin Garnett, Celtics scoring leader, defensive leader, and 2008 all star, was named defensive player of the year.

The NBA has had 66 years of championships. Of those, the Celtics have won 17, the Lakers 14... that's just under half of all championships won by just two teams (and for those of you statistically minded, just under 26% of all championships to the Celtics); so yes, the rivalry is that big.

This just puts one more rung on the ladder for LA to climb before they can even try and credibly say they are the best team of all time... though it wont stop the Lakers sycophants.

First a world series victory for the Red Sox (and looking to do it again); then the Patriots go undefeated in the regular season and playoffs (just to blow the superbowl, don't remind me); then the Bruins make the playoffs (again, just to blow it but hey, that's kind of expected these days); now the Celtics take their first championship in 22 years...

2007-2008... What a season for Boston sports.
