Aaaaargh

Hottest labor day in 10 years (114 out there), and we're having a COOK OUT.

Guess what decides to happen?

Oh yeah, the AC is completely fried. Compressor seized up, melted the control box, arced the power bars... yeah it's just plain dead.

Estimate to repair $2600 to $3000. Estimate to replace about $6,500 plus the air handler (about $3500).

In the mean time we've got an in wall unit in the living room; and we ran out and picked up a floor model AC unit; which is $450 plus tax for a 10,000 btu model. They make window units at 25,000 btu for $250, but we don't have any windows they would fit in.
