Well we made it alright to TX yesterday.
Due to an irritating combination of factors we ended up not heading out til 8pm Thursday; about an hour after we'd initially planned; but other than that, and the slow leak we picked up around Abilene (easily fixed, if only temporarily), travel overall went well...
...Until we hit Fort Worth that is (at 1:38pm local), when pretty much every road we wanted to drive on to reach our destination was resitricted down to one lane, or backed up for 15 miles (yes, 15 miles) etc... etc...
We ended up picking our way across the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex from the southwest corner to the northeast corner, using secondary highways and parkways.
We finally managed to get into Mels brothers driveway at 5:30pm local.
About 60 miles distance (in a very not-straight line), 4 hours travel time....
Whoever designed Dallas's highway system needs to be castrated with a rusty cast iron spork... a dull one... with some of the teeth broken off.
So, we're fine, and alright, and I've got a party and a day of shooting to report on later. More to come anon...
